ORIENTATION
It shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent or his/her designated representative to conduct an annual orientation program for professional personnel regarding policies of the Caldwell Parish School Board and such other topics as may be necessary for the effective operation and improvement of the Caldwell Parish Schools.
The building principal or immediate supervisor may assign a mentor teacher to every probationary teacher upon entrance of the probationary teacher into the school system. The mentor teacher, insofar as possible, shall be a tenured teacher with a minimum of three (3) years teaching experience, minimum two (2) years experience in the Caldwell School System, and shall be engaged in teaching the same grade, building, or discipline as the probationary teacher. The mentor should demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching and continuing professional development and have successfully completed the Louisiana Teacher Assessor Training Program. The mentor teacher shall assist the probationary teacher in acclimating to the teaching profession and the school system. The mentor teacher shall not be involved in the evaluation of the probationary teacher.
The building principal or the immediate supervisor shall orient all teachers with the evaluation procedures and standards during the first two (2) weeks of their assignment to their respective building or program. Each teacher shall be advised as to who shall observe and evaluate his/her performance. No formal observations shall take place until such orientation has been completed.
