EMPLOYEE ATTENDANCE

Employees of the Caldwell Parish School Board shall be expected and required to report to their designated work locations in the prescribed manner and at the prescribed time work activity is to commence.  Employees shall also be expected to remain at work for the entire work period excluding any rest and meal periods permitted.  Tardiness, unexpected absence, or failure to report to work as scheduled may result in disciplinary action.  In cases of anticipated absence or where the employee cannot report to work as scheduled, the employee shall notify his/her supervisor as soon as possible after the employee becomes aware that he/she will be absent from work.  Continual absence by the employee shall be conveyed to the employee’s supervisor on a regular basis.  The frequency of contact that may be required shall be determined by the supervisor.

ABSENCES DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

The Caldwell Parish School Board authorizes the employment of only such staff as is required to provide excellent educational opportunities for the citizens of Caldwell Parish.  Consequently, the Board considers an employee's continuous and punctual presence at the work place to be of paramount importance.  Thus, this requirement demands that employees miss work only when necessary.

However, the School Board recognizes that some absences are unavoidable, but these absences must be limited to normal health needs and/or circumstances of a personal nature that must be performed during the workday.

  1. Each employee is accountable for every day of employment with the Caldwell Parish School System according to his or her job description.

  2. All employees should notify their immediate supervisor at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to being absent from their job, whenever possible.

  3. Employees shall be expected to remain at school during the regular school day.  Any absence during the school day shall require written permission of the principal or immediate supervisor.  Unexcused absences shall result in the docking of pay of one full day for each day absent.

Reporting Absences

All absences reported by the immediate supervisor shall be recorded and counted toward an employee's leave time.

Unauthorized Absence

Any employee who is absent from work and who has not received an authorized leave shall be considered on unauthorized leave.  Any employee on unauthorized leave shall receive no pay for those days which constituted the unauthorized leave and may be subject to dismissal and/or other disciplinary actions.

Job Abandonment

If an employee is absent for ten (10) or more days without explanation or approved leave, the School Board may consider the job as abandoned and the employee terminated, unless the employee can provide acceptable and verifiable evidence of extenuating circumstances, as determined by the Superintendent.

TIME SCHEDULES

Teachers and Instructional Support Personnel

All teachers in the Caldwell Parish School System shall be expected to arrive at their assigned schools prior to the beginning of each school day and remain there until busses have left as designated by the principal with the approval of the Superintendent.  Exceptions to this time schedule may be made by the individual principal when, in his/her opinion, a justifiable request has been made in advance by the teacher.  Teachers shall be expected to stay longer on duty days, for faculty meetings, parent-teacher conferences and meetings, and other school related activities.

Principals and the administrative staff should be in their buildings ahead of students or teachers, and should remain in their buildings until students and teachers have gone from school.  Principals who leave their buildings for any purpose other than attendance at civic clubs, principals' meetings, going to the administrative offices of the Caldwell Parish School Board, or other routine business affairs connected with the schools shall secure prior approval of the Superintendent of Schools for such absence.

Teachers should remain on campus during planning periods and utilize time for proper preparation for instruction except when authorized by the principal.

Other School Board Personnel

Principals and facility administrators shall be responsible for developing work schedules for school based personnel other than teachers and instructional support personnel.  Such schedules shall be subject to the approval of the Superintendent or his/her designee.
